About Mr. X
Self proclaimed goofball, the picture shows, Mr. X hails from Northwest, Ohio. He graduated Valedictorian from high school and Summa Cum Laude (3.9+ GPA) with Bachelor degrees in Pure Mathematics and Adolescent/Young Adult Education. He was also coined as the Most Outstanding Adolescent/Young Adult Education student his senior year. He furthered his education by obtaining his Master of Arts degree with emphases in Educational Technology, Human Resource Development, and received a certification for Online Instruction.
Why He's a Standout
He began his tutoring career in 2000, yielding 25+ years of hands-on tutoring experience.
Mr. X has worked in a variety of fields outside of education such as human resources, data analytics in manufacturing, and social services with adults with developmental disabilities. With this experience, he's able to use real life examples in his tutoring.
He views tutoring as a remediation or rehabilitation type of concept where he teaches and reteaches topics with the goal for students to not only become competent in the material, but also to build math confidence and become independent. Dad jokes and humor go a long way to relieve math anxiety. The ways he explain topics help students see what they already have learned and how those things relate to current topics.
He has struggled in math a few times himself, so he knows what it feels like to stumble. Ask him about his struggles in Calculus II or Modern Geometry in college.
He also takes a vested interest in each student's progress, achievements, and life outside of math. Students and their families become his family. Former students still contact him for questions, advice, or even just to visit over a cup of coffee!
Aside from Math
When Mr. X isn't solving math problems or writing geometry proofs, you might find him couponing, woodworking, canning, researching ancestry, playing in Microsoft Excel, or tinkering on his computer. You can easily get him off topic if you bring up game shows or retro video games, too.
He's also an avid lepidopterology hobbyist in the summer; he raises and educates people on the lifecycle of butterflies and moths.
Lastly, he's a dad to four crazy felines, Snickerdoodle, Nori, Mirin, and Colonel Mustard and one canine, Mimosa.
